As the concluding event of the ICIP 2026 Industry Program, this panel looks beyond current research and technology trends to explore the future of image processing, imaging, and vision over the coming decades.
Drawing on insights gathered during the three conference days, the panelists will discuss which innovations have the greatest transformative potential, where the most significant scientific and technological gaps remain, and how imaging technologies may evolve by 2050. The discussion will also examine the alignment between academic research and industrial needs, assessing how well the ideas presented at ICIP 2026 address the long-term opportunities and challenges facing the imaging ecosystem.
More than a retrospective, the panel will offer a forward-looking perspective on the future of visual information technologies and provide attendees with a set of key takeaways from the conference: the innovations to watch, the research directions to pursue, and the grand challenges that will define imaging in the decades ahead.
